In case Skrillex wasn’t having a good enough week winning 3 Grammys, long-time OWSLA star Nick Thayer released the “Like Boom EP” on February 7 (2012), and its honestly as fun and musically diverse an album as we can expect to get all year! With the majority of the tracks clocking in at a around 110bpm, this isn’t going to sound like the majority of the dance music being put out today and stands out very impressively amongst some of OWSLA’s other titles. With a mixture of hip-hop, electro, dubstep, and house there’s an interesting vibe about the album, and even after 5-6 listens through already I still find myself unable to pin down a consistent favorite! “Totalitaria” & “Rise Up” are two of the leaders, but “Like Boom (Original Mix)” is a great lyrical track and “Facepalm (Original Mix)” is a rocking blend of power chords and electro house bass/wobbles.
